1. What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise program created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century to rehabilitate injured soldiers during World War I. Since most injured soldiers had to lie on their backs during recovery, Joseph created a pulley system that would move, strengthen, and stretch limbs simultaneously. Over the decades, the method has been adapted by fitness enthusiasts and celebrated as an ideal way to get and stay in shape. Pilates is recognized as one of the safest forms of exercise and is practiced by millions of people worldwide.

8. Are there online classes?
Yes! You may contact us at [email protected] to schedule live video classes.
9. What should I wear?
Wear clothing loose enough to let you move and stretch fully, yet tight enough so your instructor is able to see the alignment of your bones and how your muscles are engaging. Also, Pilates is performed barefoot or in socks. Note there are bathrooms available for changing.
10. How often should I do Pilates?
Depending on your exercise regimen, it is recommended you perform Pilates one to three times per week, taking a day off between sessions. Consistent practice will help you make the mind-body connection and maximize the fitness benefits of your sessions. Pilates is also an excellent accompaniment to cardiovascular activity and weight training programs.
11. What classes does Eastbluff Pilates offer other than Pilates?
In addition to Pilates, we offer barre, yoga and stretch sessions. All classes can be scheduled by clicking here.
12. What is a barre class?
Barre workouts stem from the ballet barre dancers use to stretch and practice repertoire. Exercises utilizing the ballet barre are designed to tone legs through small, isometric movements using balls and bands to increase resistance. Barre classes have grown in popularity over the years and are a great (and fun) way to get or stay in shape.
